Alice Manwaring

Alice can always be relied on to bring cake to committee meetings so there’s no need to panic, not with El Captain Manwaring at the helm! With so much control over these guys (including Takacs) it’s slightly more worrying than the thought of free soloing ‘Rhapsody’... wearing slippers.

So if JCB is the grandad, Alice is the great great grandmother of UBMC. It’s a well known fact that on a list of old school climbers, Manwaring is right up there; Stitch plates all the way!

James Brewer

They say brilliance and madness come in equal measures, and this is certainly true for James. Slightly extravagant and always complimentary, like the eccentric grandad of the UBMC committee; he’ll have you convinced you can climb E1 and is only too happy to accompany you to try. One thing’s for sure, you won’t forget your meeting with this unconventional but passionate VP.

Rachel Takacs

After a rocky end to the Christmas term, Rachel (known as Takacs) is back on fighting form. You will no doubt hear her before you see her at the wall, but don’t be intimidated. Full of life, character, and always willing to give an opinion, you’ll love Takacs and life will never be boring with her around, of that you can be sure.

Josh Daymond

One half of ‘Josh and Jack’, who lives for two things: climbing and keeping the club afloat. Our finances are in good hands with this engineer. Ever willing to try new things, Josh has advanced in a short space of time, even being known to attempt new climbs in the dark. For new experiences, look no further than our trusty tres.

Lawrence Bird

Bird is the word, and the word is socials. This energetic social sec will be your guiding light for your social life. From BBQ’s to bowling and Easter egg hunts through Selly oak; always willing to devise weird and wonderful games and ever happy to end the night in Snobs. Whatever next year brings, the social will keep your spirits high, UBMC’s got talent anyone? Yes we have.

Josh Smith

Following in the trait of previous social secs, Josh was voted most enthusiastic fresher, a title he rightly deserves. After being on nearly every trip and social, Josh is well versed in all UBMC traditions; fear not your meanie cravings will be satisfied.

Harry Thorpe

Built on a diet of vegetables, if his gear keeping skills are anything like his slack-lining ones we are in good hands. Don’t let Harry’s laid back manner fool you. Although unable to sit through an annual dinner, his eye for gear is razor sharp, and with his climbing skill not far behind, Harry is a force to be reckoned with.

Chris Stepanek

Possibly the most enthusiastic person about gear you will ever meet. He won’t rest until he knows everything there is to know about climbing equipment. He even had the contents of a rack as his phone wall paper, now that is dedication. We need never worry about gear again.

Jake Lodge

After jumping head first into his first Scotland trip, Jake has embraced all things cold and white! Watch out for this one, Jake is silent and ambitious when he climbs, being described as a climbing ninja! Get your ice axes and crampons ready for some serious fun in the mountain.

Jack Brougham

Second half of ‘Josh and Jack’, although known to have ventured outdoors for the occasional epic mod, Jack loves his indoor climbing. Although not applying the top off approach, Jack obeys the top out for power rule, becoming a skilled climber in only a couple of years. The future looks set for more internal competitions, and indoor shenanigans, and with Jack as our guide, we say lead the way.
