Adriana Brownlee - Trailblazing: Life, Lessons, and Growth in the Death Zone
Attempting to become the youngest person to submit all fourteen 8,000m peaks, Adriana Brownlee will be telling her story of how she went from sitting in a classroom at 8 years old, daydreaming about Everest, to climbing ten 8000ers in the space of one year and a few months.

Adriana Brownlee is attempting to become the youngest person to submit all fourteen 8,000m peaks. The current record is held by Mingma "David" Gyabu Sherpa, at 30 years and 166 days old, an absolute legend with whom she got to climb with on both K2 and Everest. Adri is on track to complete this mammoth undertaking by 23 years old.
Adri will be telling her story of how she went from sitting in a classroom at 8 years old, daydreaming about Everest, to climbing ten 8,000ers in the space of one year and a few months. The rollercoaster of events has shaped her journey in more ways than she can count. Adri wants to share these key lessons with you that she believes are transferable to all walks of life.
Doors will open to the public at 7:15 pm and the talk beginning at 7:30 pm on Thursday 10th November at the University of Birmingham, Teaching and Learning Building Lecture Theatre 2. The talk and Q&A after will approximately last an hour. Tickets will be £3 on the door (cash), or from The Guild of Students plus their fee. Online tickets (Zoom) will also be available from the Guild.

Direction to the Teaching and Learning Building can be found on Google Maps or below. Once here, Lecture Theatre 2 is on the level 1.

Car
Parking is available at North East Car Park Multi Storey floors 1-5 (access via Pritchatts Road) Sat Nav Postcode B15 2SA. The Ground Floor bays are reserved exclusively for Hotel Guests displaying a guest permit only. Please note that this car park does not have a lift. Parking at the University of Birmingham is free of charge after 6.00pm Mon - Fri. Google Maps
Accessible parking is available in the staff car park to the west of the building on the Ring Road North. Arriving via West Gate, by the station, or from the North off Pritchatts Road, ring the intercom and security should let you in.
Train
The University has its own train station aptly named University [Uni] with services running between it and Birmingham New Street every 10 to 20 minutes. From the stations exit left and follow the internal road until a T junction and turn left, passing the library to the right, the next building on the right is the Teaching and Learning Building. Bus
Eight local routes (1A, 61, 63, X64, 76, X20, X21, X22) directly serve campus, linking the university to the City Centre, local train stations and neighbourhoods, and the circular 11 route runs nearby. Read more

How to buy tickets online
As not a student of the University of Birmingham
This particularly applies to the online Zoom tickets, however, in person tickets are also available. Our student union, The Guild, forces to sell tickets online exclusively though their website. This is sub-optimal the say the least. Here is a guide we have created to help you through the Guild website.
- As not a UoB student you will first have to registers for a guest account.
- Once submitted, you will have to wait for a verification email which will contain a link to click to verify your account.
- Once verified, you will have to log in. Click the “log in” in the top right-hand corner and scroll down to the purple box “Staff / Employer / Guest Login” and enter your account details.
- Once logged in, you can select your tickets
- Scroll up to the top where there is a shopping trolly icon, should have a number on it. It will be one more than the number of tickets selected, unfortunately this is their fee (50p). Click on the trolly.
- Next, follow the checkout and payment procedure with The Guild and Sage Pay.
Thank you taking the time to purchase a ticket from the Guild. We apologies for the complexity of the process and their forced fee which they would not let us include in the ticket price. If you bought an in-person ticket, you will now be on the guest list. If you bought an online Zoom ticket, you will be emailed a link in advance of the talk.
