Birchen Edge Trip Report, February 2014

Due to bad weather forcing the day trip to be postponed, unfortunately a group of only seven hardy Stoats made it to the Munrow to venture out to the Peaks on a chilly February morning. These brave stoats were, however, rewarded with good conditions and an excellent day of climbing at Birchen Edge, with a couple of members getting their first experience of climbing outdoors.

Probably the highlight of the day was Dan’s impressive onsight of Orpheus Wall (HVS 5c), commonly known as the “most dogged HVS in the Peak District” - a fact he ensured everyone at the crag was aware of. At the other end of the spectrum, myself and Lizzie comically failed to start a VDiff chimney.

As the weather brightened up over the day, we were treated to an excellent day of climbing, completing a number of short but enjoyable routes, before finishing up with a spot of bouldering and an appearance by former Stoat, Jake Lodge.

Thanks to all who came along, I hope you enjoyed the trip.
