Stanage Day Trip

Despite having to cancel the original trip due to bad weather, the re-scheduled trip started with the stoats waking up nice and early (some sleeping through their alarms) and meeting at South Gate. After we realised one of the drivers was in Scotland due to a re-scheduling error, the cars got crammed full with sleepy, yet excited climbers and lots of racks.

When arriving at the crag we were met with harsh winds and a 1oC temperature but that did not stop us getting up to Stanage Popular and starting the first climbs. The leaders lead their first trad routes up to the top of the crag and the rest of their group followed on belay. After a couple of hours the sun decided to show itself and the crag soon warmed up. Someone even mentioned that they were ‘too warm’ and ‘should have put on suncream’.

The day went down smoothly (apart from Arthur having to shout ‘rope’ x3 before getting it down to the bottom every time) with some on their first ever UBMC trip. Snacks were snacked, chats were chatted and climbs were climbed, until the sun set. We then headed back to the cars and drove off to Birmingham, with some going to bed and others going to Fab…
